Oldham Council Considers Damaging Attack on Staff Pay and Conditions
Oldham Council’s Cabinet will meet again tonight to consider whether to cut staff pay and conditions.
The proposals involve a freeze on pay increments, changes to the sick pay scheme and cuts to the car user scheme. Staff have already been required to take unpaid leave due to the Council’s financial difficulties.
The affected staff provide vital services for people in Oldham – support for children and families, parks and gardens, advice and guidance, waste disposal and street cleansing.
Julie Finnegan, Branch Secretary for Oldham UNISON said:
“It is not fair to keep attacking the living standards of people providing valuable public services. The Cabinet would be short-sighted if it were to accept these proposals as they will also have a negative impact on the local economy in Oldham.
We want to continue to work with the Council to protect living standards and public services in Oldham.”
