Consultation for all members on the EU Referendum

As you will be aware there is to be a national referendum on 23rd June 2016 on whether the UK should leave or stay in the EU.

That date coincides with UNISON’s National Delegate Conference and the union has decided to ask Branches to consult members on what position, if any, UNISON should take in making any recommendation to members in the ballot.

Whilst UNISON has an established policy of opposition to the Maastricht and Lisbon treaties, and rejecting the European austerity programme inflicted in the past on Ireland, Greece and other nations, the central issue of whether to stay in or leave the EU has not been determined.

In order to allow members the maximum time to take note of the wider national debate North West Region has organised a Special Meeting for all branch members to determine their view.

The meeting will be an Open Forum, including a Question Time debate, will be held on Saturday, 2nd April 2016 UNISON North West Region, Arena Point, 1 Hunts Bank, Manchester M3 1UN.
