Local government protest day – 4 February 2014

On Tuesday 4th Fbruary we are asking you and our local community to support us –
your local council workers and school support staff. We deliver the local services we all want and need. We have suffered a massive 18% cut in wages since 2010 because of a three-year pay freeze and a pay rise of just 1% last year – well below inflation. Thousands of low paid local government workers are now struggling to make ends meet. We are not asking for the 14% pay increase that some top company bosses and bankers are being given. Instead we are campaigning for a pay rise of at least £1 an hour. That means that many of the 510,000 council workers and school support staff earning below the Living Wage of £7.65 an hour would get it and would be able to come off in-work benefits.
